If Wine is Life, Discover What Living Means at Ellensburg Canyon Winery

Brad Vancour

For those who love wine, the dream of owning their own vineyard may be nearer than they think, especially if they want to stay within an easy drive of Seattle. For sale is the award-winning Ellensburg Canyon Winery (ECW) and vineyard located just six miles south of downtown Ellensburg and just to the east of the Yakima River and Canyon Road.

“To prospective buyers, Ellensburg Canyon Winery is a turn-key operation, with an about 10,000 bottle inventory of finished wine, and the last three vintages are in the pipeline now ready to process into the bottle,” says owner Gary Cox.

Cox is a plant and soil scientist who built ECW, and he’s dedicated the vineyard to being a preeminent producer of the Washington Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Riesling, as among some of the finest wines in the world. If you take over the vineyard, he is also available to hire as a consultant on a year to year basis and teach you the wine-making ropes.

The primary residence is a meticulously maintained 2,700-square-foot, two-story, four-bedroom home with a large ensuite master bedroom, hot tub, sauna, and adjacent gazebo.  The grounds are beautifully landscaped with low mowing maintenance.

An extraordinary feature of the listing is that the property is totally sustainable: it’s Solar Powered by an 85-panel array which feeds back into the PSE Grid, is on its own well, and has its own septic system.  Notably, Ellensburg Canyon Winery was the first commercial vineyard planted in Kittitas County circa 1998.  ECW was the 697th licensed winery in the State of Washington and there are over 950 wineries today.
